It’s imperative that sustainably managed forests are the source of our timber, and why, for us, this is the only option – the destruction of wildlife habitats and biodiversity, and deforestation are very real problems where this is not the case – we re-plant more trees than we use. All of our bespoke timber doors are made from sustainably sourced timber.
Timber is an environmental champion in the construction industry.

FAQ - What is the best timber for external doors?
Typically a hardwood is considered to be the best timber for external doors due to the resistance to dents and chips. The downside to this is that the cost of the door will increase as much as 50% due to the cost of hardwood against a softwood alternative. Additionally, hardwood external doors tend to have a visible grain that when damaged and requires filling and re-painting is impossible to match into the smooth wood filler. This is not an issue with softwood doors as the grain is far less prominent.

FAQ - How do I know when I should replace my doors?
You can look out for various signs when it’s time to replace your doors. Obvious signs to look out for are damage to your door in the form of tearing, decay or warping. If your door is becoming difficult to use or has poor movement, it’s letting cold in and isn’t able to reduce noise - these are signs you need to pay attention to. Timber doors have the longest lifespan out of any other material.

FAQ - What is a good U-value for doors?
A U-value is a measurement that tells homeowners, builders, architects and specifiers how effective a material is at insulating. A U-value will determine the amount of heat that passes through the door. For doors, It’s calculated by combining the thermal resistance of all of the elements within the door (glass, gaps, frame, etc.). Current UK building regulations state that all doors, including the frame and glass, must achieve a U-value of 1.8 W/m² or less to comply.
